Choose by function before appearance

Stop/tail/turn lights, marker lights and reflectors have different roles. Lens color and external shape alone do not establish the correct function. Confirm the listing's stated function and relevant requirements for your trailer and market.

Compare the physical and electrical details

  • Lights: stated function, voltage, mounting style, housing dimensions and connector or lead configuration.
  • Replacement lenses: exact light series and attachment dimensions. A visually similar lens may not fit the housing.
  • Wiring and pigtails: connector shape, pin count, harness length and the documented connection layout.
  • Trailer connectors: plug/socket form and pin-function documentation on both sides of the connection.

Do not infer wiring from color alone

Wire colors can vary between components and harnesses. Compare the manufacturer's diagram and confirm the function of each connection. A matching pin count is a useful starting point, not proof that two connectors are interchangeable.

Lighting buying questions

Does an LED light use the same connector as my existing light?

That depends on the specific light. Compare the connector and mounting details for both products; LED describes the light source.

Does a waterproof-looking housing establish an immersion rating?

No. Use the manufacturer's explicit product rating and instructions. Appearance alone does not establish water-resistance or suitability for immersion.

Can I select a harness by pin count?

Also compare connector form, pin functions, cable length and the trailer's requirements.
