Organize bearing, seal, spindle and wheel information before comparing a replacement hub or kit.
Keep each identifier in its own field
Write down the inner bearing, outer bearing, corresponding races and seal separately, preserving the markings exactly. Include the axle manufacturer’s identification when available. Do not fill missing identifiers from the load rating alone.
Check both ends of the hub
The spindle-side fit and wheel-side mounting are separate comparisons. On the spindle side, confirm the specified bearings, seal and application. On the wheel side, confirm bolt pattern, stud size and wheel requirements.
Distinguish hub types and kit contents
An idler hub and a hub-and-drum assembly are different parts. A replacement drum may also be sold separately. Read the included-parts list to establish whether bearings, races, seal, cap, nut or other hardware are supplied.
Use measurements to verify the identified application
Compare the manufacturer’s defined measurements and units. For an axle replacement, hub-face and mounting dimensions must be interpreted using the manufacturer’s measurement method. Do not guess where a dimension starts and ends.
Before choosing a replacement
- Identifiers and suffixes recorded exactly.
- Inner and outer bearing/race combinations confirmed.
- Seal dimensions and design checked.
- Wheel bolt pattern and stud size checked.
- Hub/brake type and kit contents understood.
- Manufacturer application or qualified technical review obtained.
This is a selection checklist. Follow the applicable manufacturer service procedure for inspection, assembly and adjustment.
